ThreadTrail Privacy Policy
- Effective date:
- September 2, 2026
- Publisher:
- MattWorks
- Application:
- ThreadTrail
Summary
For the initial release, ThreadTrail does not collect, transmit, or sell your personal information. The app stores its catalog data on your computer. There are currently no user accounts, advertising, analytics, or tracking services.
Information the app accesses
For the initial release, ThreadTrail reads and stores the following on your device in order to provide its core function of cataloging quilt pattern files:
- Folders you choose to scan. The paths of folders you explicitly add, and whether each is enabled.
- File information from those folders. File names, folder paths, file types, sizes, and modification dates of pattern files found during a scan.
- Preview images. Thumbnails generated from pattern files for display in the app.
- Content you create. Tags, quilt names, and the associations you make between patterns and quilts.
- App preferences. Theme, text size, row density, thumbnail size, sort order, column visibility, and whether one-time help tips have been shown.
ThreadTrail only reads folders you explicitly select. It does not scan your drive automatically or access unrelated files.
How information is stored at initial release
At initial release, the information above is stored in your Windows user profile, under:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\SometimesMattWorks.ThreadTrail_<publisher hash>\LocalStateThreadTrail also creates backup copies of this same data through manual exports you choose to create and automatic rolling backups, so you can restore it later. At initial release, these backups are ordinary files on your device. If you export a backup to a folder that syncs to a cloud service, that copy is handled by that service under its own privacy policy.
At initial release, this data is not uploaded to any server, and the publisher has no access to it. Any future cloud backup feature will be covered by an updated privacy policy before it becomes available.
Information the app does not collect
- No names, email addresses, or contact information.
- No location data.
- No usage analytics, telemetry, or behavioral tracking.
- No advertising identifiers.
- No payment information.
Support requests you choose to send
If you use Report a Problem / Get Support, ThreadTrail opens a pre-filled message in your own email application addressed to [email protected]. The message may include technical details such as the app version and error information to help diagnose the problem. Nothing is sent until you review and send it yourself, and you can edit or delete any part of it first. Emails you send are received and retained by MattWorks only for the purpose of responding to your request.
Diagnostic data collected by Windows
If the app crashes, Microsoft Windows and the Microsoft Store may collect crash and reliability data according to your Windows diagnostic settings. This is handled by Microsoft, not by ThreadTrail, and is governed by the Microsoft Privacy Statement. You can adjust this in Windows Settings → Privacy & security → Diagnostics & feedback.
Third-party services
At initial release, ThreadTrail does not share catalog data with any third party. The app contains no third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs.
Your control over your data
At initial release, you remain in control of your catalog data:
- View or edit your tags, quilts, and scan folders at any time inside the app.
- Remove scan folders to stop indexing them.
- Export or restore your data at any time from Settings → Data.
- Delete all app data by uninstalling ThreadTrail (Windows Settings → Apps → Installed apps → ThreadTrail → Uninstall), which removes the app's local storage. Your original pattern files are never modified or deleted by uninstalling.
ThreadTrail does not modify or delete the pattern files in your scanned folders. It reads them only to build its catalog.
Children's privacy
ThreadTrail is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13.
Regional rights (GDPR / UK GDPR / CCPA)
At initial release, ThreadTrail does not collect or process personal data on the publisher's behalf, and no personal data is transferred to the publisher or any third party. Consequently there is no personal data held by MattWorks to access, correct, export, or delete, other than the contents of any support email you choose to send. Any future cloud backup feature will include updated information about the applicable data controls and rights.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published at https://www.threadtrail.net/privacypolicy with a revised effective date. Material changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
